Senior Technical Officer - Greening Australia

The Opportunity

Greening Australia is looking for a passionate Senior Technical Officer to lead the technical delivery of Seed Science projects. This role will focus on integrating seed science and best practice into the practical aspects of seed collection, climate-adjusted seed and seed production area establishment to help deliver key Greening Australia’s biodiversity and restoration projects.   

Key Position Accountabilities

Key areas of accountability and outcomes include:

  1. Lead the delivery and implementation of technical studies that deliver against seed impact metrics

  2. Work with the Operations and seed teams to support best practice implementation of seed into revegetation projects;

  3. Contribute to documentation of Research and Development priorities for delivery in partnership with research providers.

  4. Working with the Science and Seed teams, contribute to strategic initiatives with a focus on impact, technical approach and innovation.

 

Key Selection Criteria

  • Tertiary degree in ecology, environmental science, conservation genetics or seed science more broadly.

  • Research, industry and/or consulting experience in environmental management or seed science.

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team, show initiative and to work unsupervised.

  • Well-developed interpersonal skills with experience in liaison with clients, partners and stakeholders.

  • Ability to undertake site travel as required.

  • Current ‘C’ Class Driver’s License.

 

Desirable Criteria 

  • Excellent written skills including writing proposals and reporting.

  • Demonstrated competence in oral communication skills, including the ability to use PowerPoint and presentations.

  • Demonstrated high levels of organisation and ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.

  • Experience undertaking quantitative data analysis

  • Understanding of occupational, health and safety, equity and diversity principles and practices.

  • Demonstrated competence in GIS (Arc GIS and other relevant software)
